Shukhov Tower Press Conference

There are TWO days of public discussion left. After that a decision on the proposal to dismantle and relocate the Shukhov Tower will be made, as soon as March 24.

On Wednesday, March 19, there will be a press conference & panel discussion: alternative restoration projects for the Shukhov Tower, at 4pm Moscow time.

Shukhov Tower Press Conference March 19, 2014

Architects, engineers and specialists in the conservation of the architectural heritage are invited to participate in the discussion.

So, The Constructivist Project (Natalia Melikova) is able and willing to represent an international organization, an architect, a specialist, or other public figure at the press conference – for example to read an official statement on their behalf in front of the Russian press.

The Russian architectural community has rallied together, organizing events, collecting signatures, and informing the public how to express their views against the dismantling and relocation of the tower. Another strategy is to have foreign opinion weigh in on the situation. As soon as the The New York Times article came out on the 16th, there was a whole wave of foreign articles, followed by the Russian media with articles titled “Foreign architects interested in the fate of the Shukhov Tower” and the like.

In short, foreign opinion on the matter is an EFFECTIVE strategy to get the media’s attention!

The more well-known and authoritative the organization or person is, the better. Here are some ideas:
– World Monuments Fund
– UNESCO
– an architect or expert from the letter to Putin
– other possible organizations/people?

THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE TO HAVE OUR VOICE HEARD BEFORE THE FATE OF SHUKHOV TOWER IS DECIDED.

FORWARD this info to relevant parties!
