Happy belated birthday (159th!) to Vladimir Grigoryevich Shukhov. August 28th marked the beginning of a year commemorating this great engineer. And several news stories came out of it, discussing the fate of Shukhov Tower. Cost of the restoration is being quoted at increasing from 135 to 350 million rubles ($4.2 – 10.9 million). Currently Shukhov Tower is a candidate for UNESCO world heritage status, but if the restoration is not done properly, then it could lose its status.
